About Natasja
My name is Natasja Flapper, owner of Flappergasted Cakes and Next Level Cakes, situated in the Netherlands. I am married to Maurits, the most supportive husband I could wish for, 10 years ago now, he told me to just quit my job and make cakes instead. I have been making cakes and sugarart since 2012 and in that time, I have learned an incredible amount of ways to play with food! In 2016 I became a Renshaw Ambassador and still love working with this brand every single day.
In daily life, I make cakes for clients, birthday cakes, cupcakes, wedding cakes and everything in between. My heart lies with sculpted cakes, airbrush and modelling sugar figures, this is where I also won many gold awards and prizes and my sculpted cakes brought me a finalist spot at the Cake Masters Awards twice. I also found a new love in painted cakes, which I am trying to do more often and am constantly trying to expand my skill set.
Natasja’s Work
Natasja’s favourite products
My absolute favorite Renshaw product is Renshaw Extra fondant, because it is a perfect all-rounder, it is so easy to work with, to colour, roll, knead, sculpt with, and it holds texture very well, perfect for my sculpted cakes!
My favorite Rainbow Dust products are the Progel and lustre ranges. Progel is reliable, easy to use, there are so many beautiful colours and shades to choose from and easy to mix, in case you just need a tiny different shade. It is also bake stable, so easy to use in baked goods.
The Lustre range is just so gorgeous, easy to use, add some alcohol to make quick drying metallic paints for unicorn horns, handwriting, little details, or even to use in an airbrush. When used dry with a brush, it gives a beautiful even gloss or shimmer to pearls, chocolate balls or other chocolate figures, I love using them whenever I can.
